How Well Do You Drive the Finish Line?

Once a drag racer can cut a light, which is no small feat, the next big obstacle involves driving the finish line. Sure, John Force doesn't have to drive the finish line—the fastest guy just wins, but for 99% of the rest of us, we not only have to cut a light but we also have to deal with dial-ins and indexes. This means that we have to be able to not only cut a good consistent light, but also drive the finish line. At the starting line, we only have one decision to make—see the yellow and go! At the finish line, there are many more difficult decisions to make in a fraction of a second—should I take the stripe? Should I let the other racer take the stripe? How much should I take the stripe by? How can I get better at these difficult decisions? In this one-of-a-kind video, we talk about the different possibilities at the big end and provide useful advice on why, how, and when to drive the finish line.
